Short Sunderland Mk III of 423 Squadron Royal Canadian Air Force on patrol off the west coast of Scotland in 1944.
The Short Sunderland was one of the finest flying boats ever built. A development of the Short Empire flying boats of the 1930s, it was designed primarily for long range reconnaissance and anti-submarine duties. It played a key wartime role in the Battle of the Atlantic and continued in active RAF service until 1959.
