A B-17G Flying Fortress of the 457th Bombardment Group, United States Eighth Air Force, based in England in 1944. Having completed a daylight raid over Germany the bomber has fallen behind the rest of the group and is in danger of being picked off by Luftwaffe fighters. Its crew is greatly relieved to meet a RAF Spitfire that provides a welcome escort across the English Channel and ensures they live to fight another day.
